Ospohas Will Strive To Produce World-Class Graduates
The Rector, Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, has pledged to leverage the available resources of the institution to produce graduates that will be able to compete globally.
Dr. Rasaki Yinka Akinbo, during an interview in his office, stated that the institution is well equipped to produce well-baked medical practitioners for the health sector in the country. Excerpts.
Q: Kindly make an overview of your activities in the last one year, more importantly in the area of academics?
A: In the area of academics, we have been able to introduce additional eighteen new courses in our institution which are fully accredited by the Board of Technical Education.
In addition to that, we intend running HND programs in Environmental Technology, Dental Technology and we are about to accredit the HND programs. Once we have that in place, we will have additional eighteen programs.
In the area of infrastructure, we have not rested on our oars but we have been able to add value by constructing additional lecture theatre and classrooms and this includes Health Information Management building, Medical Lab Technology building and the Community Health building.
The senator representing Ogun West, Aremo Solomon Adeola, donated an ambulance and five brand new minibuses to the institution, including solar streetlights among other infrastructure, and we believe strongly if he emerged as the governor of the state he will be able to perform more in the educational sector of the state to be able to witness global demand. We run some professional exams in the institution which include NECO and WAEC and this increases the revenue of the institution.
Q: Adequate staff welfare is key towards the suitability of any organization, do you key into this idea?
A: I want to tell you that staff at the Institution are very happy. Salaries are paid before or on the 26th of every month and we also have other impetus to encourage our staff to put in their best.
Our institution is one of the first in the country to implement the new minimum wage. We will continue to train and retrain our staff so that they will be able to put in their best.
Q: Ilese is the host community of our institution. Talking about the annual Ilese Day Festival, what is your perception as regards the annual event?
A: The annual Ilese Day Festival is an event that showcases the cultural heritage of Ilese and it has also gone a step further to integrate the people on a common front. Yes the event is held on our premises; therefore we are part of the event. Guests are encouraged to donate generously for developmental projects in the community through self-scheme. If we could sustain this lofty idea Ilese will be firmly positioned on the pedestal of economic prosperity.
Q: What are your future prospects for your institution?
A: We will continue to strive to achieve excellence, introducing programs and ideas that will upscale the institution as a medical university in the country.
